How to Read Your Solar System's Generation Data
Your solar inverter app shows daily, monthly, and lifetime generation data. Here's how to interpret it and identify if your system is underperforming.
Modern solar inverters come with monitoring apps (Growatt ShinePhone, Solis Cloud, Luminous iCon) that show your system's real-time and historical generation data. Understanding this data helps you ensure your system is performing optimally.
Key Metrics to Monitor
- Daily Generation (kWh/day): Units generated today. Should peak around noon.
- Monthly Generation (kWh/month): Total units for the month.
- Performance Ratio (PR): Actual output vs. theoretical maximum. Healthy PR is 0.75–0.85.
- Specific Yield (kWh/kWp): Units generated per kW of installed capacity. In Rajasthan, expect 140–165 kWh/kWp/month.
Expected Daily Generation in Rajasthan
As a thumb rule for Jaipur:
- 1 kW system: 4.5 to 5.5 units/day
- 5 kW system: 22 to 27 units/day
- 10 kW system: 44 to 55 units/day
Signs of Underperformance
- Daily generation consistently 20% below expected
- System generation drops to zero during daylight hours (inverter fault)
- Sudden drop in generation compared to the same period last month
What to Do
If you notice underperformance, first check if panels need cleaning. If generation remains low after cleaning, contact Suryanex Solar's AMC team for a diagnostic visit.
